2019–20 LDOE Mentor Teacher Training

LDOE Mentor Teacher cohorts will engage in a nine-day sequence of trainings. During these trainings, the Mentor Teachers will:

  • Deepen their understanding of the role of a mentor;
  • Gain knowledge and skills to effectively serve in that role; and 
  • Facilitate the mentoring cycle to support growth for fellow educators.

There are 16 cohorts for the 2019-20 school year of four types: Elementary, Secondary ELA, Secondary Math, and Secondary Universal. Each cohort training session has specific dates and locations.

    Notes for all cohorts:

    • All Mentor Teacher cohort meetings will meet from 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
    • Mentors should bring laptops and mentor teacher materials to each meeting.
    • Attendance is taken each day and sign in sheets appear on the LDOE website.
    • Travel expenses are not covered by the LDOE. Please work with your district contact to plan for those expenses.
    • Coffee is served in the morning and lunch is provided.
    • Session 3 for all participants regardless of cohort takes place on June 24 or June 25 prior to Teacher Leader Summit in New Orleans or July 1 at Marksville. 
    • It is important that you attend all sessions. If you have a conflict with a cohort session date, please look at the other cohort meeting dates and submit a change request form to attend another cohort for those sessions no later than 1 week prior to any date in your request.
      • You should change dates only with another cohort of the same type as yours.
      • For example, if you are in a Secondary ELA cohort and have a conflict with the dates for sessions 1-2, you can request a change to attend the sessions 1-2 with the other Secondary ELA cohort. You cannot change to attend sessions 1-2 with an elementary cohort.
      • Changes are made on a limited basis and are subject to space availability.

    The Mentor Teacher trainings are presented by the Charles A. Dana Center at The University of Texas at Austin and Learning Forward, in partnership with the Louisiana Department of Education.
