Effective teacher practice is refined through a structured, collaborative effort among teachers within the school system.

The Dana Center offers professional learning sessions for both mathematics and science teachers and school and district leaders. Below you will find our current professional learning opportunities.

Math Content Leader, Elementary

Fall Cohort

  • August 10 – December 15: One session a week
  • Optional Office Hours Every Other Week

Math Content Leader cohorts will engage in a sequence of synchronous 2-hour online sessions. There will be asynchronous engagements, including optional office hours, between synchronous meetings for reflection and preparation, as well as creation of BloomBoard assessment submissions. During these trainings, the Math Content Leaders will:

  • Deepen their understanding of math content and pedagogy;
  • Gain knowledge and skills to effectively implement Engage NY/Eureka curriculum;
  • Prepare to facilitate high-quality learning experiences for fellow educators; and
  • Prepare for and work toward completing the BloomBoard assessments.

Science Content Leader cohorts will engage in a sequence of synchronous 2-hour online sessions. There will be asynchronous engagements, including optional office hours, between synchronous meetings for reflection and preparation, as well as creation of BloomBoard assessment submissions.

Content Leader training in science is curriculum agnostic. Model units are used to illustrate the important routines and strategies in phenomenon based resources and focusing on building capacity of teachers to unpack and implement any resource using structured tools and processes. Teachers will have opportunities to engage with their own curricular resources. 

During these trainings, the Science Content Leaders will:

  • Deepen their understanding of science content and pedagogy;
  • Connect that knowledge to the practical implementation of high-quality curricular resources;
  • Prepare to facilitate high-quality learning experiences for fellow educators; and
  • Prepare for and work toward completing the BloomBoard assessments.

6–12
