The Dana Center Welcomes Doug Sovde!

July 12, 2017|By Dana Center Communications

Doug SovdeThe Charles A. Dana Center is excited to welcome Doug Sovde as the Director of K-12 Education Strategy, Policy, and Services.

Doug comes to the Dana Center with a strong background in mathematics, leadership, and national program and policy work from his years at Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC), Achieve, Bellevue Public Schools, and, most recently, at UnboundEd Learning Inc.

“Doug’s experiences with large scale design and enactment of education services have helped districts across the country thrive in a dynamic and complex policy environment, making him uniquely suited for this role. We are thrilled to have Doug on our team,” said Carolyn Landel, managing director.

Doug will bring his national perspective to the Dana Center, offering leadership to our current work that includes working at scale in both math and science education to assure students are well-prepared for education beyond high school. He will play a leadership role in continuing the Center’s work supporting a network of the nation’s largest urban school districts, and engaging in national discussions around rigor, equity, and access in the K-12 education system, and the shared responsibility of both K-12 and higher education in supporting student success.

“The Dana Center works within complex systems to address persistent educational inequities,” said Uri Treisman, executive director. “Doug’s focus on issues of equity, diversity, and inclusion in mathematics education throughout his career aligns with our mission to ensure that every student leaves school prepared for success in postsecondary education and the contemporary workplace.”

Doug’s previous work includes content and policy development through large-scale summative and diagnostic digital assessments developed with PARCC, and educational curricular and professional learning resources with UnboundEd Learning, Inc. His national leadership in mathematics education has prepared him to help realize the Dana Center’s strategic vision.

“The Dana Center has been a leading change agent within the field. I’ve admired the Center’s ability to work within current conditions while not always accepting the status quo. Joining the Dana Center will allow me to advance mathematics and science education across the K-12 spectrum. I’m looking forward to this new adventure,” said Doug.
