Supporting Mathematics Teacher Education: Policy Recommendations (2005) (pdf 240kb)—This issue brief provides recommendations for institutions in Texas involved in the education of prospective mathematics teachers.

Supporting and Strengthening Standards-Based Mathematics Teacher Preparation (2004) (pdf 1mb)—These guidelines provide support for redesigning and implementing standards-based mathematics teacher preparation and certification programs. The guidelines are designed to support mathematicians and encourage them to continue efforts to improve teacher preparation in mathematics. The document includes mathematics tasks appropriate for all higher education students.

Guidelines for the Mathematical Preparation of Prospective Elementary Teachers (1996) (pdf 461kb)—The guidelines contain general statements about what is important to (a) gauge the general quality of preservice mathematics courses, and (b) support and promote requisite changes in institutions of higher learning.

The Dana Center brought together chairs of mathematics departments and deans of colleges of education to reach agreement on policy recommendations, resulting in publication of On the Mathematical Preparation of Teachers (pdf 90kb)—a joint position statement from the Texas Association of Academic Administrators in the Mathematical Sciences and the Texas Association of Colleges of Teachers Education.
