Well, we are on the home stretch for the start of the Spring Training Conference. I am very excited by the presenters we have in store for you and the quality of this conference. We have set up five half-day sessions, with the main topics of Unaccompanied Youth, Cultural Competency, Special Education, Project Evaluation, and then our normal updates and housekeeping items. The presenters represent the best of the field in each of these areas. I am certain you will find them knowledgeable, helpful, and very engaging.
Several of you have asked about the specifics of the trainings, such as the start times, so here is the "scoop" on the agenda:
As you all know, the conference will be at the Hilton Garden Inn Downtown, beginning on Wednesday morning, February 28. The training will be held in the Sabine Room, located in the Executive Meeting Center (EMC). From the hotel lobby and front desk area, take the elevators to the Mezzanine Level, and as you exit you will see signs pointing to the Executive Meeting Center -- you can't miss the enclosed walkway going across the street that will take you to the EMC.
The Sabine Room is the first room you come to as you enter the EMC; registration for the conference will be outside the Sabine Room, too.
The training will begin at 8:30 a.m. There will be a nice continental breakfast outside the Sabine Room available after 7:30 a.m., and this is included in your conference registration. There will be drinks and snacks available throughout the day as part of the conference, as well. Training will start at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, and the same continental breakfast will be available then.
Lunch is scheduled at noon on both Wednesday and Thursday, and will be on site in the Creekside Dining Room, the lower level of the EMC. Lunch is also included as part of your registration fee. Lunch is scheduled for one hour, and is a buffet that has extensive entrée and salad selections, with plenty of options for any dietary restrictions.
We will end our training days after 4:30 p.m., but most likely before 5:00 p.m. Evenings and dinners are on your own.
On Friday morning, the session will begin at 8:30 a.m. There will be a full breakfast instead of the continental breakfast in the hotel restaurant, located on the 18th floor of the hotel. İYou will have a coupon for breakfast. The restaurant opens at 6:30 a.m.
The training will be over at 12:00 p.m. on Friday. Lunch on Friday is not included in the training fee.
Please remember that Region 10 requires projects to be present for the whole training, so make your plans accordingly.
Dress for the training is "business casual" - so, don't feel obligated to dress up. Be comfortable.
Also, you will need to bring your project goals, objectives, and evaluation measures with you for the training on Thursday afternoon.
If you have any other questions about the training, please let me know, and I will try to supply you with the answer.
Safe travels, and we will see you all on Wednesday!
Tim
