Brian Newsom

Program Coordinator

Brian Newsom serves as a program coordinator for national mathematics initiatives at the Dana Center. Mr. Newsom’s work centers on the Academic Youth Development program, which supports middle school students’ successful transition into Algebra I, and the Urban Mathematics Leadership Network, a consortium of large urban school districts across the United States.

Before joining the Dana Center, Mr. Newsom served as senior program director of secondary mathematics for the Boston public schools. In that role, he supported the implementation of curriculum, curriculum materials, assessments, and professional development for more than 70 schools. Mr. Newsom has taught a wide range of mathematics courses, from middle school math in Boston public schools to algebra at Northeastern University.

Mr. Newsom holds a B.S. in computer science with a minor in mathematics from Tuskegee University and a M.A.T in mathematics from Simmons College.
