Since 2009, the Dana Center has been working with the Rhode Island Department of Elementary and Secondary Education and Rhode Island school districts to develop K12 mathematics curriculum aligned to standards—initially the Rhode Island State Standards, and now the Common Core State Standards for Mathematics.

The Dana Center's work with the Cranston Public Schools is highlighted in the September 19 Cranston Herald article "Goldthwait oversees math focus across the district." The article focuses on math program supervisor Jeff Goldthwait's work for Cranston Public Schools and provides an excellent overview of how Cranston is managing the complicated and high-stakes work of overhauling its mathematics program with the goals of increasing students' understanding of mathematics concepts and improving their math scores.
