At this year's Conference for the Advancement of Science Teaching in Galveston, Dana Center science team members offered four short courses designed to help administrators and teachers prepare for implementation of the revised science TEKS in 2010–2011.

The four short courses used a TEKS alignment tool to examine the revised TEKS for:

  • connections between and among grade levels,
  • implications for teaching and learning, and
  • important features to look for in instructional materials.

The Dana Center also offered a workshop on effective strategies for teaching science to English-language learners. This workshop provides teachers and administrators with research-based instructional strategies to help ELL students and other students who are struggling with science vocabulary and comprehension of science materials. The strategies presented can be embedded in lessons that teachers already use.
