Supporting And Strengthening Standards-Based Mathematics Teacher Preparation: Guidelines for Mathematics and Mathematics Education Faculty. (2004, first edition, 130 pages) [pdf, 1.1MB]

The Supporting and Strengthening Standards-Based Mathematics Teacher Preparation (S3MTP) project built upon the work of a statewide network of Texas faculty that began in 1994 with a project supported by the Fund for the Improvement of Postsecondary Education (FIPSE), a program of the Office of Postsecondary Education of the U.S. Department of Education. This project resulted in the Dana Center’s 1996 publication, Guidelines for the Mathematical Preparation of Prospective Elementary Teachers.

That 1996 project also led to the Dana Center’s annual statewide October Preservice Conference, which served mathematics and education faculty with a special interest in mathematics teacher preparation. This conference led to a growing network of faculty interested in the mathematical preparation of teachers. Ideas generated by participants at one of these October Preservice conferences. led to the development of S3MTP, which was also funded by a FIPSE grant.
