Problem solving provides an important context in which students can learn about various mathematical topics and through which teachers can assess student performance in all aspects of mathematics.

In this session, you will explore problem solving as it appears in and connects to the state standards. Working with other participants, you will examine and use a set of research-based strategies and tools to increase students’ problem-solving skills.

In particular, you will learn and practice questioning strategies that add complexity to problems and challenge students to think critically about all aspects of a given problem.
