Science Laboratory Safety
A one-day session

In this session, teachers and administrators work through a series of hands-on activities to come to an understanding of the laws, rules, and regulations that school districts must follow to ensure that teachers and students have a safe science learning environment.
Participants will receive a copy of the new, 4th edition of Texas Safety Standards: Kindergarten Through Grade 12 Science. This manual is cited in the updated science TEKS, which require students to "demonstrate safe practices during laboratory and field investigations as outlined in the Texas Safety Standards."
In this session, you will analyze information about example laboratory and classroom facilities and learn how to select and maintain appropriate science safety equipment and materials. You will use a checklist to evaluate safety conditions in your school, and you will analyze common accidents and determine how best to respond to them.
