2 days, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., fee $398
Elementary school teachers and education service center, district, and campus instructional specialists will:
- Learn how GEMS (Great Explorations in Math and Science) units can be used in the classroom to improve student learning by addressing both conceptual and inquiry strands.
- Select and attend four modules from a menu of twelve GEMS modules; these module investigations will be led by a GEMS Associate.
- Receive a teacher guide for each module attended.
- The GEMS modules addressed in the institute are strongly aligned to the TEKS.
- These modules provide practical investigations for student learning in regular classroom settings.
- GEMS activities engage students in first-hand experience and experimentation to introduce essential, standards-based principles and concepts.
- The GEMS modules provide clear step-by-step instructions that enable all teachers to be successful presenting the activities.
- GEMS units offer effective, practical, economical, and schedule-friendly ways to provide high-quality science and math learning to all students.
Great Explorations in Math and Science is a program of the Lawrence Hall of Science, the public science education center at the University of California at Berkeley. The Dana Center is a Lawrence Hall of Science GEMS Center.
