Through the classroom culture they foster, teachers and leaders play an important role in shaping how students think about learning and academic achievement. In this session, you will explore new research and innovative strategies that can positively influence students’ academic identities.

You will engage in activities that can be used to increase students’ self-beliefs and confidence, promote their sense of belonging to an academic community, and improve overall classroom culture. You will also learn strategies for encouraging students to understand that they can get smarter by working harder.

In late 2010, the Dana Center launched an innovative new website, Learning and the Adolescent Mind, which shares the most compelling knowledge about student learning and success through the ideas and research of respected leaders in psychology and adolescent education.

This session will explore the website's resources and their practical application in secondary classrooms.
