Algebra II and Beyond

A two-day session, 9 am to 4 pm
Early registration fee: $398; Standard registration fee: $428

Audience:

  • Algebra II, Precalculus, Calculus, and Statistics teachers
  • Instructional specialists and coaches

Equipment note:

  • Participants should bring a laptop with wireless capability, Flash 9.0 to 10.0 (not Flash 10.1), and Firefox 3.5.2 or higher, Internet Explorer 7 or 8, or Safari 4.

In this session, you will investigate problem situations from the perspective of how advanced problems progress from previous coursework and how this progression supports college readiness.

The session traces the development of key concepts from middle school mathematics through Algebra II and beyond, thus enhancing your understanding of how advanced mathematical concepts are seeded early in students’ educations.

Through this study, you will gain a deeper, more critical understanding of the state standards for Algebra II and learn techniques for embedding review of earlier mathematics concepts so that more instructional time can be devoted to Algebra II.

This session will also help ensure that you, your campus, and your district are prepared for the implementation of end-of-course exams. The freshman class of 2011–2012 will be required to pass the Algebra II end-of-course exam to graduate from high school.
