The 2005 conference, "Teacher Quality in Support of High Standards," offered sessions that focused on improving teacher quality as a step toward ensuring that all students are college-ready after high school graduation. Sessions addressed concerns of faculty who are involved in the preparation and support of either preservice or inservice teachers, and faculty who teach mathematics or science courses especially for incoming college students.
We are very pleased to announce that the Dana Center is now the home of the statewide Teacher Quality program, so this year's conference also included sessions for Teacher Quality grant recipients—both current and past awardees as well as those who may want to apply in the future.
The traditional audience for the Dana Center October Conference has been mathematics faculty in two- and four-year colleges and universities in Texas. This year we also invited science faculty who were interested in ensuring teacher quality by working with either preservice or inservice teachers. We especially invited faculty who were offering Type B Teacher Quality training for teachers through the Texas Higher Education Coordination Board funding, as well as those who planned to apply for funding in the upcoming year.
