From the Project Coordinator

Sheryl Prater

Within the ACEE structure I serve as the Project Coordinator. My main responsibility involves working closely with the tutors as they learn to teach reading to our program's focus children. I plan instructional trainings for our tutors, support them on-site at their schools and serve as a liason between the schools we serve and our program.

For a number of years I was a kindergarten teacher and was fortunate to have ACEE tutors in my classroom, working one-on-one with their focus children and helping me with classroom support. This experience affords me a unique understanding of the program from a teacher's perspective. Now, as a member of the staff, I understand the tutor's perspective of serving in our program. From both perspectives, however, I see the benefit of a tutor's expertise in the educational experience of a child. The care and knowledge of an adult is a profound gift to give a child. Both the tutor and the child are transformed as community is built and a safe place for learning and caring is established.

While my job responsibilities remain the same, my days are always different and inviting as schools and their inhabitants are ever-evolving participants in the world of learning.
