On Friday, October 14, T.A. Brown Elementary School unveiled their newly renovated library. ACE was onsite to help coordinate, support, and take part in the celebration that brought together students, families, more than 100 Target volunteers, and Austin Independent School District Superintendent Meria Carstarphen.

The redesigned library, first constructed in 1957, features new reading spaces, lighting, design elements, and technology upgrades. In addition to cosmetic changes, Target donated two thousand books to the library. Students and their siblings in attendance at the event each received seven books to take home.

T.A. Brown was one of 42 schools nationwide to be selected as a recipient of the 2011 Target School Library Makeover program. This program, a partnership with The Heart of America Foundation, incorporated the Target Meals for Minds, a school food pantry pilot program aimed at combating childhood hunger to promote learning.

This new library brought a sense of caring and community and sparked a desire and passion for learning throughout T.A. Brown and the Austin district. ACE is proud to play an active role in schools such as T.A. Brown that have such a strong commitment to promoting literacy and combating hunger.
