ACE has recently expanded its partnership with Perez Elementary School, increasing tutor presence both on and off campus to help promote literacy in new and diverse ways.
On Thursday, October 20, ACE tutors at Perez participated in the school's annual Literacy Night. The event, which brought over 200 students and their families, was aimed at improving students' reading skills and promoting parental involvement in their children's education and growth.
While it is common practice for ACE tutors to participate in partner school's literacy events, ACE has recently increased its presence on campus to promote education activities that benefit not only children in our program, but the school population at large.
On Saturday, October 22, ACE tutors from all participating campuses met at Perez Elementary to serve as chaperones to over 30 students, from first to fifth grade, at the Texas Book Festival. Perez students, with the help of ACE tutors, were given free rein to explore the Children's Activity tents. At the end of the day, ACE tutors and their students met up at the Children's Entertainment Tent to give support to local Austin schoolchildren, including several from Perez Elementary, selected to present poems at Badgerdog Literary Publishing's Youth Voices in Ink.
This field trip was a great opportunity for students who otherwise would not have been able to attend the Book Festival. ACE was pleased to be part of helping provide Austin students with access to educationally enriching events and supporting an environment that inspires children to read for enjoyment.
