ACE Staff Member Gabriela Garcia Graduates from Hispanic Austin Leadership Class

June 2010

ACE is proud to announce that our Training Specialist, Gabriela Garcia, recently graduated from the Hispanic Austin Leadership (HAL) Class of 2010. Gabriela says her experience was one that put her back into the role of a student. "Every month I stepped away from the world of literacy and was introduced to the Austin community through panels and speakers that were leading Austin in a wide range of topics from civic engagement to financial stability."

Gabriela also said that ACE gave her skills that helped her in her leadership class. "There were several skills that I learned via ACE and my mentors at work that I put to use in my new team with HAL. But I think the AmeriCorps mantra of 'Getting Things Done' was something that I definitely applied to HAL."

HAL provides business leaders and professionals an opportunity to develop civic awareness, leadership skills, and a network of colleagues for life. HAL also provides participants an opportunity to become community leaders. Participants are expected to continue to be engaged and to effect the changes required to create equity, opportunity, and a better quality of life for all who live the Austin area.
