May 2008
As a celebration of last week’s National AmeriCorps Week, the City Council honored Austin AmeriCorps programs with an official proclamation on Thursday, May 15th. Representatives from a majority of the ten Austin-area AmeriCorps programs were on hand to hear Mayor Will Winn read the proclamation, which officially declared May 12-18 as AmeriCorps Week in Austin. Afterwards, a member of Keep Austin Housed (KAH) gave a small speech about his commitment to serving locally. The event was well attended by community members, as it coincided with Public Service Week here in town. Employees from every City of Austin Department came to City Hall to receive a special certificate from the mayor on behalf of their departments’ contributions to the city.
