ACE–REGION XIII Partnership for Teacher Certification
Who is eligible?
- ACE full-time members who already have a college degree are eligible to apply to Region XIII.
- Being accepted to ACE is not a guarantee of acceptance to Region XIII. They are independent programs.
- For those tutors pursuing bilingual education certification, there are additional requirements that include a language proficiency assessment.
What does it cost?
- AmeriCorps education award cannot be used for these costs because Region XIII is not a Title 4 institution (an AmeriCorps requirement for using education award).
- Total costs are about $5325. If you enter a high-need area (i.e., bilingual education), there is a $2000 reduction in cost.
- There are also fees associated with certification exams.
- Some costs are paid during the year of service, and some costs can be deducted monthly from teaching salary during first year of teaching.
How would this fit into a year of service in ACE?
- Coursework would be done evenings and weekends from January to May.
- ACE service year ends June 30, but there are Region XIII requirements in the summer.
For more information, see the Region XIII website.
