Dana Center Role

Josh works with mathematics education systems to help develop, design, implement, and improve policies, procedures, content and other structures that enable students to successfully access and succeed in high-quality mathematics courses that are aligned to their aspirations.

Josh's leadership in the Dana Center’s Launch Years Initiative, which seeks to usher in a new paradigm to support students for college preparation and guide them through pathways for degree attainment, specifically focuses on the transition from the junior year of high school through the junior year in college. Through this work, he has advised multiple states in the implementation of math pathways, as well as the modernization of Algebra II.

Josh researches initiatives on implementation of standards-based curriculum and codevelops protocols and professional development.

In addition, Josh authors and manages content development for Agile Mind course programs and assessment tools, including Algebra II, Statistics, and Transition to College Mathematics. He works with partner sites on advanced mathematics implementation of Agile Mind services.

Before Joining the Dana Center

After teaching high school mathematics for seven years, Josh served in several administrative roles for Comal Independent School District (Texas). He most recently was the district director for the AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) initiative as well as coordinator for program evaluation and academic programs, where he developed research and data reports and used statistical analysis to improve intervention strategies for students.

Before assuming this position, Josh served as coordinator for advanced academics and coordinator for mathematics curriculum. In the latter role, he wrote curriculum for middle and high school mathematics and provided mathematics professional development.
